Why Is Asbestos Removal Important?

Prevent Severe Health Risks

Asbestos fibers, when inhaled, can lead to severe respiratory conditions, including:

Asbestosis – Scarring of lung tissue leading to breathing difficulties.

Lung Cancer – Prolonged exposure increases the risk of lung cancer.

Mesothelioma – A rare and aggressive cancer affecting the lung lining.

Exposure often occurs unknowingly, making professional removal essential for safety.

Air contaminants

Protecting Indoor Air Quality

Asbestos can be found in insulation, flooring, roofing, and other structural materials. Disturbing these materials releases fibers into the air, affecting indoor air quality and creating long-term health hazards. Professional removal ensures a safer environment.

Asbestos in Azerbaijan

Asbestos, known as ‘Asbest’ in many Russian-speaking countries, has been widely used in Azerbaijan, particularly in construction and infrastructure projects. Although asbestos is banned in 60 countries worldwide, Azerbaijan has not yet prohibited its use. Chrysotile (White Asbestos) is the most commonly available type of asbestos fiber in the region, marketed as the ‘safe’ asbestos by mining and production companies. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has repeatedly stated that all forms of asbestos are a ‘Grade 1 Carcinogen’ – meaning they are proven to cause cancer in humans. Despite its known health risks, asbestos remains widely used due to its affordability, heat resistance, and soundproofing qualities.

Products containing asbestos are often labeled differently to avoid negative connotations. For example, asbestos cement is called ‘fibre cement,’ and asbestos gaskets are referred to as ‘fibre gaskets.’ This misleading
terminology does not change the fact that exposure to asbestos fibers can cause fatal diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, and asbestos-related lung cancer. Asbestos removal services are required when international projects are conducted in Azerbaijan. For example, in pipeline building projects in Azerbaijan and Georgia, Azecolab provided asbestos management, removal, and pre- and post-testing services to ensure safety and compliance with international standards.
